Apart from the big National and International competitions, Clubs usually run competitions for club members only and also most will run open competitions for all comers. Each county also has a County championships each year. The major competitions in the UK are either FITA STAR rounds of 3 dozen arrows at 90,70,50 and 30 metres
(70,60,50 and 30 for ladies) or York (6 dozen at 100yds, 4 at 80yds and 2 at 60yds) and Hereford (6 at 80, 4 at 60 and 2 at 50) gentlemen usually shoot the York and Ladies the Hereford. It usually takes all day to shoot these major rounds, often an additional shorter round will be run by the organisers in the afternoon.

For all the rounds shot at competitions there are rounds for juniors with the same number of arrows but shorter distances. There are lots of other rounds at shorter distances and less number of arrows, and competitions run by clubs all over the country.

There are also Field archery competitions run during the summer, and International Field competitions. Do you have to enter competitions NO. Archery is a FUN sport and many archers never enter competitions. Most archers that enter competitions do it for a good day out and to meet fellow archers.
